Welcome to The Pottery, a unique and creative space situated in the Ballito Lifestyle Centre, on the sunny Dolphin Coast. Here we celebrate creatives, innovators and coffee-lovers!
Our casual, alfresco-style café and pottery store offers a truly unique shopping experience. Browse the funky and colourful retail space, while sipping on a locally roasted coffee or a freshly pressed juice. Select and paint your own ceramics, and watch our potters glaze and fire the pottery in our kilns.
Our emphasis on ‘living life creatively’ is reflected in our surf-inspired art scenes and pottery painting specials. Our fresh and healthy menu includes a range of speciality coffees, blended smoothies and fruit-filled smoothie bowls as well as pressed fruit and veg juices and decadent milkshakes. The Pottery is an ideal venue for a creative escape, a chilled date, an arty birthday celebration or some family bonding time.

Enjoy something fresh and healthy off our menu. From breakfast to light meals such as salads, wraps and burgers there is something delicious for everyone.
1. Select an item from our shelves. We have a range of handmade Wonki Ware™️ bisque pottery items and themed ceramics including side plates, dinner plates, mugs, bowls, platters , trinket dishes and loads more.
2. Take a seat in our café and choose your favourite meal or beverage .
3. Our staff will deliver a box of vibrant paints as well as brushes, stencils and pencils. Dip your brush into some paint and let your imagination run wild.
4. Watch our artisans at work. The potters dip and glaze the bisqueware at the store and fire the pottery in our own kilns.
5. We will contact you within seven to ten days to collect your masterpiece. Make sure you have signed or photographed your item. It might be worth money someday!
From Small items to big items, our prices range from R150 to R600. All paints and firing is inclusive. Due to the delicate and sometimes unpredictable nature of clay and the imperfectly perfect nature of this natural raw material, different items respond differently to the glazing and firing process. Cracks occasionally occur, and sometimes make the pieces even more beautiful! Relish the blemish!

All our muggs are produced in store handmade on a wheel and bisked fired and glazed fired onsite. We have a wonki ware potter in store that produces all our muggs that is made from scratch to its final product. Glazing and firing in store.

Inspired by the vibrant, warm spirit of Africa; Wonki Ware™ is a trendsetting world leader in handmade pottery. This proudly South African business was founded by creator and entrepreneur Di Marshall, in the Garden Route town of George, over twenty years ago. Wonki Ware™ Pottery is now internationally recognised and endorsed by celebrity chefs such as Nigella Lawson and Jamie Oliver and actress Cindi Crawford.
The Wonki Ware™ collection includes timeless and classic tableware, and colourful decorative items. Their extensive catalogue includes dinnerware including elegant Etoshas, serving platters, jugs, mugs, bowls, tiny ramekins and salt dishes. To this day, every single item is made by hand. The potters use clay sourced from the Eastern Cape and each piece of pottery passes through the hands of at least 14 individual artisans on its journey from wheel, to kiln and finally to the table.
Wonki Ware™ now has a team of 100 skilled potters working in their Garden Route factory. Many of the staff are from disadvantaged backgrounds. Each craftsperson embraced Di Marshall’s passion for pottery to become a skilled artisan. By empowering young South Africans to develop their creative skills, this home-grown business has thrived against the odds.

Each ceramic piece is locally made with the firing and glazing process done in-house ensuring it is given its own magical story.
